About the position

The Academic Employee Relations Manager at California State University, Fresno, is responsible for managing complex employee relations matters and supporting the Faculty Affairs department. This role requires advanced knowledge of employment laws and collective bargaining agreements, as well as strong communication and conflict resolution skills. The manager will work independently under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs, contributing to a professional and human-centered workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions to complex employee relations matters and programmatic items.
  • Apply sound judgment in handling workplace investigations and disputes.
  • Write investigatory reports, business correspondence, and grievance responses.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with campus and external constituencies.
  • Lead and motivate staff within the Faculty Affairs department.
  • Manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a closely related field.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible human resources or related academic personnel experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, research, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mediation and negotiation in a workplace setting.
  • Advanced time management skills.
