About the position

The Academic Intervention Teacher for Grades 7-8 is responsible for providing targeted educational interventions to help students develop essential skills and knowledge. This role focuses on creating a supportive learning environment, implementing research-based methodologies, and monitoring student progress to ensure effective learning outcomes. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, and staff to foster academic growth and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Provides effective educational interventions and progress monitoring for students.
  • Designs and implements academic interventions using research-based methodologies.
  • Adjusts instruction based on student-specific needs identified from progress monitoring.
  • Creates a conducive classroom environment appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals and communicates clear objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides required progress reports.
  • Implements specialized learning plans, accommodations, or modifications as required.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in a fair manner.
  • Makes provisions for availability to students and parents outside instructional hours when required.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, evaluating their performance.
  • Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at meetings and committees.
  • Dresses and conducts oneself in a professional manner.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance school climate and academic programs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum three years of successful teaching experience in relevant roles.
  • Training or experience in effective reading intervention programs aligned with the science of reading.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, or reading intervention teacher preferred.
