About the position

The University of Nebraska Press is seeking an Academic Marketing Specialist to enhance the visibility and sales of its academic publications. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including conceptualizing and organizing exhibits, collaborating with authors, editors, and colleagues on academic marketing initiatives, and contributing to the overall marketing strategy for scholarly monographs and journals. The primary goal is to increase the reach and sales of UNP's academic publications through diverse marketing tactics such as publicity, exhibits, advertising, and other promotional efforts. The Academic Marketing Specialist will work closely with the Assistant Journals Manager and report directly to the Marketing and Sales Manager, playing a crucial role in ensuring that UNP maintains a recognizable and effective presence at exhibits that represent both books and journals. This position is essential for marketing and selling scholarly publications to a broad academic audience. Additionally, the position may offer the possibility of remote work in accordance with the University of Nebraska's Alternative Worksite program. Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and organize exhibits for academic marketing.
  • Collaborate with authors, editors, and colleagues on academic marketing initiatives.
  • Assist in developing the overall marketing strategy for scholarly monographs and journals.
  • Increase visibility and sales of UNP's academic publications through various marketing tactics.
  • Coordinate publicity, exhibits, advertising, and promotional efforts in collaboration with the Assistant Journals Manager.
  • Ensure a recognizable and effective presence at exhibits representing both books and journals.
  • Market and sell scholarly publications to a wide academic audience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience in marketing-related, customer service, or sales positions; equivalent education/experience considered.
  • Proven work experience in social media marketing or knowledge of online marketing platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with databases and willingness to learn new software systems.
  • Customer-oriented with strong multitasking and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and resourcefulness with problem-solving aptitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a publishing environment.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to proofread.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite products, especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
  • Experience with WordPress-based websites.
