About the position

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Medicine is seeking an experienced and dedicated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon for a full-time, non-tenure track position. This role offers opportunities for clinical practice, research, and teaching, with a focus on providing high-quality patient care, educating medical students and residents, and advancing the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgical care, focusing on general surgery, trauma, and surgical oncology services.
  • Perform breast reconstruction and other reconstructive procedures as part of the surgical oncology service.
  • Develop and maintain an outpatient presence at a new ambulatory surgery center, supporting the clinical mission of UTRGV.
  • Actively participate in the education and training of medical students and residents, supervising surgical procedures and leading didactic sessions.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and academic publications.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and contribute to the growth of the surgical services program.

Requirements

  • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and/or General Surgery.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License.
  • Demonstration of strong commitment to teaching and mentoring medical students and residents.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach to patient care.

Nice-to-haves

  • Academic experience and evidence of scholarly activity are preferred but not required.
  • Fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery is highly desirable.

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan option for positions at least 20 hours per week and 135 days in length.
  • Optional Retirement Program (ORP) available for positions at least 40 hours per week and 135 days in length.
