About the position

The Academic Program Manager (HEA) at City College of New York is responsible for overseeing the Publishing Certificate Program, aimed at enhancing diversity in the publishing industry. This role involves course scheduling, student advising, recruitment, fundraising, and managing various programs to support students' career development in publishing.

Responsibilities

• Develop schedule of courses and recruit instructors for the Publishing Certificate Program throughout the academic year
• Provide academic advising for students regarding the requirements of the PCP
• Formulate and execute policy for recruitment of students within CCNY, CUNY, the publishing industry, and the general population
• Fundraise within the publishing industry and ancillary businesses
• Maintain job bank for current students in need of part-time employment
• Operate internship program for students
• Manage the mentoring program with publishing industry employees for students
• Oversee visits of publishing professionals to CCNY to discuss their work
• Maintain major annual events to publicize the program
• Create application guidelines and select students for awards as needed
• Work with PCP graduates to secure full-time employment in the publishing field

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience required
• Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, organizational, communication, and project management skills
• Ability to organize and implement change within large institutions
• Knowledgeable about careers in not-for-profit and/or cultural institutions, especially within New York City
• Experience working with people as a mentor, coach, or educator
• Experience in team-based settings adept at creative problem solving
• Exceptional communication skills and experience in project management with multiple external stakeholders
• Experience in mentoring and supporting historically marginalized communities
• Working knowledge of community and cultural organizations within New York City and understanding of higher education ecosystems
