The mission of the Helen Bader Office of Applied Gerontology is to promote optimal aging and strengthen connections with community partners by advancing opportunities in gerontology education, research and training for students, faculty, and the community. Reporting to the Endowed Chair, Office of Applied Gerontology, this position coordinates certain education and program initiatives in the Office of Applied Gerontology (OAG). This position will collaborate with campus Schools and Colleges and the wider community to foster interdisciplinary growth and maturation of aging education and training initiatives. This is a 51% fixed term academic staff position.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Graduate Certificate in Applied Gerontology (GCAG) including course inclusion across campus units and manage student enrollment and advising.
  • Notify certificate students about scholarship opportunities and revise curriculum to ensure significant content in aging.
  • Promote and publicize GCAG, including the Online Option to professionals in the community.
  • Manage student enrollment and advising for the Undergraduate Social Work Minor in Aging (MIA) and notify MIA students about scholarship opportunities.
  • Promote and publicize the Minor to undergraduate social work students.
  • Coordinate the reimplementation of the Undergraduate Certificate in Healthy Aging (UCHA) and manage student enrollment and advising.
  • Serve as Advisor of Student Gerontology Association (SGA), providing support and attending meetings and events.
  • Help to recruit SGA officers and members and promote SGA to students at UWM.
  • Co-coordinate with team members on OAG events including planning the Open House and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Event.
  • Maintain membership on relevant committees such as BSW Committee, MSW Online Advisory Committee, and HBSSW Scholarship Committee.

Requirements

  • Masters in social work (MSW)
  • At least 5 years' experience in social work practice
  • Certified AARP Disrupt Aging Educator or similar certification
  • At least 5 years' experience developing and revising gerontology curriculum
  • At least 5 years' experience with student advising in a higher education setting
  • At least 5 years' experience supervising and coordinating internships

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensure at the APSW or higher
  • Event planning experience
  • Ability to develop relationships with a wide variety of community stakeholders
  • Ability to work cross campus developing curriculum and aging initiatives
  • Experience working with student organizations or associations
