About the position

The Academic Success Counselor for the Phoenix campus at Creighton University is responsible for developing and implementing academic success programs tailored for students in occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, and physician assistant programs. This role focuses on providing individualized support to students facing academic challenges, including probation and course remediation, and serves as a liaison between students and faculty to enhance academic performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual academic success consultation/coaching for academic skill development, time management, study skills, and test-taking strategies.
  • Serve as a liaison and consultant to faculty in their roles as instructors and academic advisors.
  • Work with faculty to proactively identify struggling students.
  • Implement academic success programs for students, including individual academic coaching, seminars, workshops, and guest presentations.
  • Collaborate in the development and delivery of faculty development opportunities related to student learning.
  • Administer and interpret learning preference inventories and other student assessments.
  • Proctor exams as needed.
  • Serve on school and university committees.
  • Act as a reference person for student resources, referrals, and services such as financial aid and counseling services.
  • Assist in organizing School events like orientation week and graduate recognition.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, College Counseling and Student Development, or Student Affairs.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of higher education operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills to build relationships with students and professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and educational psychology preferred.
  • Organizational, management, and collaborative skills.
  • Counseling/advising skills to assess and create interventions for a diverse population.
  • Teaching skills, including the ability to conduct small groups and develop educational programs.
  • Ability to relate well with students and maintain accessibility and flexibility in interactions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in academic coaching or counseling in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) like Blueline.
