About the position

The Academic Support (Math Lab Manager) at Leeward Community College is responsible for overseeing the Math Lab's operations, providing support services to students in mathematics and related quantitative courses. This role involves collaborating with faculty to develop educational resources, managing student tutors, and promoting the Math Lab's services through various campus events. The position requires a strong background in mathematics and effective communication skills to foster a supportive learning environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and promotion of the Math Lab to support students in mathematics and quantitative courses.
  • Collaborate with coordinators and instructors to develop remedial and supplemental materials for students.
  • Organize and implement campus-wide events to promote Math Lab services.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student tutors.
  • Provide tutorial assistance to students when tutors are unavailable.
  • Maintain inventory and preserve Math Lab assets.
  • Promote Math Lab services to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive budgets for Math Lab operations.
  • Collect and maintain data related to Math Lab services and prepare reports.
  • Perform relevant duties as assigned during non-instructional periods.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in mathematics or related field with coursework in calculus.
  • 0 years of progressively responsible professional experience in teaching/tutoring mathematics or equivalent experience.
  • Functional knowledge of teaching/tutoring principles and practices in mathematics.
  • Understanding of federal and state laws related to Math Labs or learning centers.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems in mathematics education.
  • Effective communication skills in writing reports and documentation.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and software for word processing and spreadsheets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a Math Lab or similar tutorial unit.
  • Experience supervising student assistants in a college setting.
  • Expertise in using learning management systems and instructional software.
