About the position

The Academic Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing administrative and operational support for the Finance majors and programs within the College of Business. This position involves collaboration with faculty, staff, and department heads to ensure the smooth functioning of departmental activities, including managing student information and assisting with various academic processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic administrative and operational support for Finance majors and programs.
  • Coordinate departmental faculty activities and assist with committee functions.
  • Create spreadsheets and perform data entry tasks.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit documents as needed.
  • Manage timetables, Force Ads, and graduate program coordination.
  • Assist with recruiting and teaching assistance processes.
  • Handle book ordering and grade changes for courses.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all student information, including graduate assistantships and stipends.
  • Act as a backup for fiscal position and perform other office tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, spreadsheets, and database management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures effectively.
  • Capability to develop and maintain accurate records and files.
  • Ability to interpret transcripts and determine prerequisite coursework.
  • Strong prioritization skills with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience dealing with a diverse group of individuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing administrative and clerical support in a professional office environment.
  • Ability to handle, manipulate, store, and retrieve digital files.
  • Working knowledge of Banner Finance and/or Banner Student Systems software or equivalent relational database.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Slate, email, calendaring, and internet browsers.
  • Excellent grammatical and spelling skills.
