Join our Team at South Georgia State College! South Georgia State College is a residential state college of the University System of Georgia (USG). SGSC focuses on a core of strong teaching and personalized academic advising. It has a long and distinguished tradition of serving the people of Georgia. Students pursue associate degrees in 20 programs of study, eight (8) bachelor’s degrees programs which are transferrable to other institutions or prepare them for careers in a variety of fields. South Georgia State College institution has given residents in South Georgia a chance to further their education since the early 1900s. The position involves performing specialized library work overseeing access and circulation services including basic reference assistance, collection maintenance, and supervision of student personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist library patrons by communicating effectively to provide information and services, advise library policies, assist with issues and concerns, monitor public areas for usage, activity, and acceptable conduct, and respond to informational and basic reference questions.
  • Supervise circulation services by maintaining circulation desk functions including charging/discharging materials, processing reserves, overseeing patron accounts, receiving monies for fees, and ensuring policy adherence.
  • Open and close the library facility as scheduled; ensure furniture and equipment is in good order; monitor for leaks and other building deficiencies; secure classroom 127 between classes.
  • Collect and compile statistical data and submit various circulation-related reports.
  • Liaison with financial aid to identify student workers; supervise, train, and evaluate student workers and part-time circulation personnel; approve time sheets for student workers.
  • Supervise shelving and shelf-reading and other collection maintenance; assist with collection inventory.
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as answering phones; assist with the creation of displays, bulletin boards, and signage; assist with library events and activities; and maintain lists and schedules.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and/or two years of experience as an Access Services-related library assistant.
  • Customer Service Experience.

Benefits

  • $38,656.38 based pay plus benefits.
