About the position

The Access Control Technician at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is responsible for managing and maintaining the access control systems across the campus, ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic access control hardware and software, as well as providing support for security operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain access control systems, including electronic locks, card readers, and monitoring software.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of access control devices to ensure functionality and compliance with security protocols.
  • Provide technical support for access control systems, responding to service requests and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure seamless integration of access control systems with existing infrastructure.
  • Manage access permissions for students, staff, and contractors, including issuing and deactivating access cards and keys.
  • Maintain accurate records of access rights and access logs in accordance with university policies.
  • Train staff on access control procedures and best practices for system use.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to access control processes, including user manuals and troubleshooting guides.
  • Assist in the response to security incidents and emergencies involving access control systems.
  • Participate in drills and training exercises to ensure preparedness for various scenarios.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and local regulations regarding access control and security.
  • Prepare and present reports on access control system performance and security incidents to management as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Security Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in access control, security systems, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with various access control technologies and systems (e.g., proximity card systems, biometric systems).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software and hardware related to access control systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Electronic Security Technician (EST), Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM)) are a plus.
