About the position

The Access Coordinator II position at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a full-time role focused on patient registration activities and data collection. This position serves as a resource for patients, ensuring accurate collection of demographics, insurance information, and payments. The role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to manage various administrative tasks in a high-volume environment, supporting the overall patient care process.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and collect copays, coinsurance, and past-due patient balances.
  • Post payments, print receipts, and balance cash drawer.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for daily deposits.
  • Work registration and front desk, assisting billing to identify potential insurance billing and payment issues.
  • Provide courteous and prompt attention to patients in registration and front desk area.
  • Monitor changes in billing procedures and communicate changes to employees.
  • Review patient accounts for demographic, insurance, and payment errors.
  • Track appointment cancellations and no-shows.
  • Ensure timely faxing, scanning, and importing of documents.
  • Review and match patient billing information with verifications and supporting documentation.
  • Schedule patient appointments, verify insurance eligibility, and counsel patients on office policies.
  • Review Patient Portal requests for demographic changes and appointment requests, approving changes as appropriate.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail.
  • Fill in as Call Center Representative and cross-train in various areas as needed.
  • Generate reports for accounting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two (2) years of customer service or healthcare experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to follow oral instructions, read, and write
  • Computer/basic keyboard skills
  • Telephone etiquette skills
  • General knowledge of office machines, including printers and scanners
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two (2) years experience in registration or scheduling in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance eligibility.
