About the position

The Access Services Technician position at Villanova University's Falvey Memorial Library is designed for students to provide essential support to the Access Services department. This role involves customer service, circulation transactions, and assisting patrons with library resources. Technicians will also handle various clerical tasks and participate in library projects, making it a vital position for maintaining library operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person customer service at the library service desk.
  • Conduct circulation transactions for patrons and answer patron questions.
  • Search for materials in the library catalog for patrons and direct them to reference librarians for research assistance.
  • Process requests and materials for the Pickup & Go holds service.
  • Answer incoming phone calls to the library service desk.
  • Shelve returned books and maintain book stacks.
  • Move book carts and lift and carry books.
  • Search for missing books and process interlibrary loan materials.
  • Update records in specialized library software and systems.
  • Scan pages in journals and books for electronic delivery.
  • Ship materials to other libraries via UPS software.
  • Open incoming packages and sort contents for processing.
  • Retrieve materials from local and remote locations.
  • Perform light clerical work, routine office tasks, and run errands as directed.
  • Participate and contribute to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and reliability.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience using hardware (laptops, PCs, printers, scanners, mobile devices) and software (Windows, Mac, web browsers, Novasis, Webmail, Blackboard) preferred.
  • Familiarity with the library's catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines preferred.
  • Cross-training in multiple areas required.
  • Availability on evenings and weekends preferred.
