About the position

The Accessories Craftsperson at Colonial Williamsburg is responsible for creating, maintaining, and customizing 18th-century accessories for interpreters in historical dress. This role involves collaboration with the Historical Clothing & Dress Team and requires skills in various crafts such as sewing, leathercraft, and embroidery. The position emphasizes historical accuracy and quality in accessory production, while also adhering to safety protocols when handling chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Create accessories based on research and established construction methods.
• Maintain and repair accessories to ensure longevity.
• Meet production timelines and conduct self-quality checks.
• Act as a liaison between customers, other operations units, and vendors.
• Follow safety protocols when handling dye and cleaning chemicals.
• Consult with supervisors about finishing techniques for historical accuracy.
• Communicate issues or needs regarding accessories and garment construction efficiently.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments.
• Learn and train in new techniques for authentic accessory production.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of professional experience in craft, accessories, or theater industries.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work/life experience.
• Portfolio showcasing accessories skills in production and design.

Nice-to-haves

• 3-5 years of professional experience.
• Interest in 18th-century clothing and accessories.
• Factory accessories production experience.
• Factory sewing experience.
• Additional fiber arts-related experience such as lacemaking, spinning, dyeing, and weaving.
