About the position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking an Accommodations Specialist within its Human Resources Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring that employees with disabilities receive the necessary accommodations as mandated by various laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Pregnancy Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), Fair Housing Act, and Title VII. The Accommodations Specialist will work closely with various departments across the campus to evaluate accommodation requests and facilitate the interactive process between employees, medical professionals, supervisors, and HR Business Partners. The Specialist will be responsible for receiving, researching, and evaluating requests for accommodations, determining their eligibility under the law, assessing the reasonableness of each request, and making recommendations for approval. This position also involves authoring accommodation recommendations and providing training and communication to employees and supervisors regarding accommodation processes. Additionally, the Specialist will ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to workplace accommodations and provide guidance to the campus community on these issues. Responsibilities

  • Evaluate requests for accommodations under the ADA, PWFA, Fair Housing Act, and Title VII religious' accommodation.
  • Engage with employees, medical professionals, supervisors, and HR Business Partners to assist employees with disabilities requiring workplace accommodations.
  • Determine whether requests qualify under law and assess the reasonableness of requests, making recommendations for approval.
  • Author accommodation recommendations based on evaluations.
  • Provide communication and training to employees and supervisors regarding accommodation processes.
  • Guide campus departments on issues relating to accommodations and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and four (4) years of related work experience, or an Associate's Degree and three (3) years, or a Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years, or a Master's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Experience in human resources, compliance, accommodation or disability services, or related fields.
