About the position

The Account Clerk II position is responsible for managing the billing procedures for city services, ensuring timely mailing of quarterly bills, and overseeing the posting and balancing of accounts. This role involves auditing payments for business and occupational taxes, providing guidance to new businesses, and maintaining accurate records of tax returns. The clerk will also follow up on delinquent accounts and may pursue legal actions for payment recovery. Additionally, the position may include bookkeeping responsibilities and preparing financial reports under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Direct city services billing procedure and ensure timely mailing of quarterly bills.
  • Oversee the posting and balancing of accounts.
  • Receive, check, and audit payments for the City's business and occupational tax.
  • Provide information to new businesses regarding tax procedures and requirements.
  • Maintain files and records of quarterly and annual tax returns.
  • Follow up on delinquent city services and business accounts.
  • Control the sending of warning notices for delinquent accounts.
  • Take steps to obtain judgments against delinquent accounts, including garnishments and bank suggestions.
  • Make adjustment entries and reconcile accounts as needed.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports and statements under supervision.

Requirements

  • Experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Knowledge of business and occupational tax procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
