About the position

The Account Executive (AE), Inland Marine at Travelers is a pivotal role that focuses on providing coverage for business properties that are mobile or require unique valuation. This position is essential for managing the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. The AE will partner with agents and brokers to assess customer needs and provide tailored insurance solutions. The role requires a decisive and detail-oriented individual who excels in building relationships both internally and externally to drive results. The AE will be responsible for underwriting and skillfully negotiating customer accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. This includes cultivating and maintaining relationships with internal partners and external agents and brokers, regularly meeting with them to market and sell Travelers products. The AE will also identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills, developing and executing agency sales plans, and performing other duties as assigned. This position requires travel to meet with partners and clients, emphasizing the importance of relationship management in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Develop and execute agency sales plans.
  • Execute region/group sales plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of underwriting experience.
  • Three to five years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in inland marine.
  • Knowledge of inland marine products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
