About the position

The Account Executive Officer (AEO) for Select Underwriting at Travelers is a pivotal role that focuses on managing a diverse portfolio of business accounts in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. This position is designed for individuals who are decisive, detail-oriented, and possess strong relationship-building skills. The AEO will partner with agents to provide a comprehensive range of property and casualty coverages, including general liability, commercial auto, workers' compensation, and umbrella coverage tailored to meet the specific needs of small businesses. The core product offered is the Business Owner's Policy (BOP), which provides essential property and liability coverage for various types of small businesses, from retailers to manufacturers. In this role, the AEO will be responsible for the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. This includes underwriting and negotiating complex accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. The AEO will ensure underwriting quality through thorough analysis and will be expected to make informed decisions regarding account acceptance, modification, or rating. Building and maintaining relationships with both internal partners and external agents and brokers is crucial, as the AEO will regularly engage in marketing and sales activities to promote Travelers' products and secure new business opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting, particularly in commercial lines, and will be equipped with advanced critical thinking skills to navigate underwriting challenges effectively. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, as the AEO will often find themselves in complex discussions with agents and brokers. Additionally, the role may involve mentoring less-experienced Account Executives, contributing to the overall development of the underwriting team.
