About the position

The Account Executive Officer/Sr. Underwriter for Select Small Commercial at Travelers is responsible for managing the profitability, growth, and retention of a portfolio of small business accounts. This role involves underwriting and negotiating complex property and casualty accounts, building relationships with agents and brokers, and collaborating with internal partners to drive sales and identify new business opportunities. The position requires a detail-oriented individual who can assess complex risks and contribute to the overall success of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex property and casualty accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through appropriate underwriting analysis based on risk complexity.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by meeting with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Partner with Sales Executives to identify and write new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with underwriting leadership as appropriate.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of less-experienced Account Executives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial lines products.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills to identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills with negotiation abilities in difficult situations.
  • CPCU designation.
  • Four years of underwriting experience.
