About the position

As an Account Executive/Underwriter in Management Liability at Travelers, you will play a crucial role in providing management and professional liability insurance, as well as surety bonds to businesses and non-profit organizations. This position is part of the Bond & Specialty Insurance division, which focuses on delivering financial protection to private and non-profit entities. You will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing financial and business risks, building relationships with agents and brokers, and negotiating insurance solutions that meet the needs of your clients. In this dynamic role, you will manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. You will underwrite and negotiate customer accounts, ensuring that risks are minimized while maximizing profitability. Your ability to execute business unit underwriting strategies will be essential in achieving profit and growth objectives. You will also cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners and external agents and brokers, identifying cross-selling opportunities and capturing new business through consultative marketing and sales skills. Regular travel to meet with partners will be required to effectively market and sell Travelers products. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking skills, enabling you to assess risk and make informed decisions that align with Travelers' risk appetite. You will need to communicate effectively, negotiating successfully with agents and brokers to drive results. This role requires a detail-oriented approach and the ability to build relationships both internally and externally, contributing to the overall success and profitability of Travelers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Execute business unit underwriting strategies across your book of business to achieve profit and growth objectives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Develop and execute individual agency sales plans that align with the team's sales plans to drive success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three to five years of applicable underwriting experience.
  • Working knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and local market conditions.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyze available information to make decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate with agents and brokers.
  • Two years of underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis, or risk assessment experience.
