About the position

The Account Executive (AE) for Commercial Accounts at Travelers Companies, Inc. plays a crucial role in managing a diverse portfolio of guaranteed-cost products tailored for mid-size businesses. This position is centered around providing comprehensive coverage options, including General Liability, Property, Automobile, Workers' Compensation, and Lead Umbrella, to meet the unique needs of clients. The AE will work closely with agents and brokers to ensure that both new and renewal business is effectively underwritten and aligned with the company's risk appetite. The role demands a decisive and detail-oriented individual who excels in building and nurturing relationships, both internally and externally, to drive business results and profitability. In this position, the AE will be responsible for the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. This includes underwriting and negotiating customer accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. The AE will also cultivate relationships with internal partners across various business units to create effective sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities. Regular in-person meetings with agents and brokers are essential to market and sell Travelers products, with the goal of writing and retaining accounts that align with the company's risk appetite. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales skills, as well as the execution of agency and regional sales plans. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Develop and execute agency sales plans.
  • Execute region/group sales plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of underwriting experience.
  • Three to five years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
  • Knowledge of commercial lines products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
