About the position

The Account Executive at MSC Industrial Supply Co. is responsible for generating sales by nurturing existing customer relationships and prospecting for new customers. This entry-level role focuses on account management, working collaboratively to drive sales through the acquisition, development, retention, and management of strategic clients within designated territories. The ideal candidate will have exposure to strategic sales strategies and a proven track record in customer engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Penetrates accounts at both the functional and Executive level to design superior solutions for customers' needs.
  • Provides cross-territory technical and sales expertise when needed.
  • Executes MSC Collaboration projects and cross-selling activities.
  • Acts as a role model for sales associates, demonstrating MSC values and financial achievement.
  • Works with internal teams to ensure operational efficiencies and service levels meet customer expectations.
  • Achieves sales plan and account retention targets.
  • Identifies and grows opportunities within the district through collaboration with various sales teams.
  • Effectively communicates initiatives between multiple contacts within a customer.
  • Maximizes productivity through the utilization of multiple MSC Solution channels.
  • Develops relationships with customers and delivers key components of the sales strategy.
  • Creates and delivers face-to-face sales presentations to prospective clients.
  • Sells with goals of exceeding departmental financial and division targets.
  • Stays aware of the competitive landscape and emerging technologies.
  • Develops the strategy of the sales territory, including identifying strategic partnerships.
  • Actively researches and generates new leads through various prospecting activities.
  • Retains customer base by delivering a superior customer experience.
  • Maintains accurate sales records and prepares reports as required.
  • Responsible for successful implementation of major company programs and initiatives.
  • Assists or conducts prospect/customer surveys and setups for new customer locations.
  • Secures and submits customer orders for processing utilizing wireless ordering technology.
  • Develops pricing strategy for non-contract customers in accordance with company policies.
  • Submits written reports as required by management.
  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company.
  • Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two to four year college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years outside direct sales/service experience preferred.
  • 2 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in account retention and account penetration preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven track record in new account acquisition, account retention, and/or account penetration is preferred.
  • Technical product knowledge relevant to the markets served, including fasteners, chemicals, and industrial maintenance supplies.
