About the position

The Account Manager will be responsible for promoting, selling, and maintaining GFL Environmental's solid waste services to businesses and industrial establishments within an assigned territory. This role involves identifying new market areas, managing existing customer relationships, and developing strategies to outperform competitors. The Account Manager will prepare sales contracts and provide pricing and service information, contributing to the company's goal of providing sustainable solutions and enhancing community well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Aggressively solicit orders from current and prospective customers to maintain and increase customer base.
  • Maintain good customer relations by traveling throughout assigned territory to meet with existing and prospective customers.
  • Compile and manage lists of prospective customers in the ACT database for sales leads.
  • Penetrate new and existing market areas to maintain and increase sales and market share.
  • Develop working knowledge of branch/regional profit and loss components, including pricing service and calculating desired margins.
  • Provide price quotes and credit terms to potential customers and prepare sales contracts.
  • Consult Sales Manager or Facility/General Manager prior to deviating from book rates.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in preparation and organization of sales presentations to major accounts.
  • Maintain awareness of the activities of all competitors.
  • Assist with the identification and implementation of price increases for substandard accounts.
  • Perform waste stream analysis to estimate volumes and recognize waste streams requiring special handling.
  • Participate in business-related meetings, conferences, and civic organizations to boost company exposure.
  • Act as liaison between large customers and municipal/governmental sectors, including bid invitations and preliminary bid preparation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Two to three years of sales experience with thorough knowledge of sales techniques.
  • Knowledge or experience in the solid waste industry is desired.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and technical journals.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to create and implement solutions to customer-specific problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of pricing management and roll-off truck sales.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to solid waste equipment.
