About the position

The Accounts Receivable Representative II at CalvertHealth Medical Center is responsible for managing all patient account functions, which include billing, collections, and follow-up processes in a timely and accurate manner. This role is crucial in ensuring that the Business Office Department operates efficiently, providing specialized billing and collection services for both governmental and non-governmental payers. The representative will perform all duties associated with the Accounts Receivable Representative I position, while also taking on additional responsibilities that require a deeper understanding of the healthcare billing process. In this role, the representative will be expected to maintain unit-specific and hospital competencies, as well as complete mandatory learning and any clinical certifications required by the Staff Education and Training policy. The position demands a strong grasp of insurance plans, coverage types, and medical terminology, along with a demonstrated understanding of revenue cycle concepts and process flows. The representative will also need to be familiar with various claims forms used in healthcare billing, such as UB04 and HCFA 1500. Effective communication is essential, as the representative will need to address issues with staff and departments at all levels. Given the sensitive nature of the information handled, discretion and integrity are paramount in this role. The representative will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with payer billing and collection rules, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all patient account functions including billing, collections, and follow-up processes.
  • Perform duties of Accounts Receivable Representative I as required.
  • Provide specialized billing and collection services for both governmental and non-governmental payers.
  • Maintain unit-specific and hospital competencies as per Staff Education and Training policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of insurance plans, coverage types, and medical terminology.
  • Understand revenue cycle concepts and process flows.
  • Maintain knowledge of claims forms used for healthcare billing (UB04, HCFA 1500, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and departments regarding billing issues.
  • Ensure compliance with payer billing and collection rules.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; 2 years of college preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a healthcare business office setting.
  • Demonstrated use of computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance plans and medical terminology.
  • Understanding of revenue cycle concepts and process flows.
  • Knowledge of claims forms used for healthcare billing.
