About the position

DS Smith Plc is a leading provider of corrugated packaging and operates in 37 countries, employing over 32,000 people. The position of Local Sales Representative is part of the Sheeter Business Unit and will report directly to the Sales Director of the assigned facility. This role is focused on the Winchester, VA region, where the representative will develop a portfolio of accounts by engaging with local purchasing decision-makers at manufacturing facilities. These accounts operate independently from corporate decision-making teams, allowing for a more localized approach to sales and customer service. The Local Account Sales Representative will be responsible for identifying business opportunities, researching and analyzing sales options, and establishing contact with prospects to recommend suitable packaging solutions. Maintaining strong relationships with clients is crucial, as the representative will provide ongoing support, information, and guidance. The role also involves staying current on industry trends and competitors to identify potential product improvements or new offerings. Additionally, the representative will need to understand the manufacturing processes of customers to effectively relate them to the shipping containers provided by DS Smith. This position requires a proactive approach to sales, including negotiating terms for pricing adjustments and maintaining professional knowledge through continuous education and networking. The representative will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the sales team and the company.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies business opportunities by identifying prospects and evaluating their position in the industry
  • Researches and analyzes sales options
  • Sells products by establishing contact and developing relationships with prospects; recommending solutions
  • Maintains relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance
  • Identifies product improvements or new products by remaining current on industry trends, market activities, and competitors
  • Learns new design innovations both graphic and structural
  • Understands customer's manufacturing process as it relates to our shipping containers
  • Negotiates terms for price increases and decreases
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 4-6 years in business to business outside sales, preferably in the printing/packaging industry
  • Prior experience selling to manufacturers in multiple industries
  • Current Driver's license needed
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Must be highly organized and able to continually shift priorities based on customer needs
  • Must be motivated to build excellent client relationships
  • Proven ability to achieve sales quotas
  • Must be willing and able to travel as necessary, with the majority of travel being local though there may be occasional longer distance travel if dictated by the opportunity.
