About the position

The Accountant position at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries involves providing professional accounting services within the Accounts Payable Division. The role focuses on processing vendor and travel payments, conducting audits, and performing reconciliations related to Accounts Payable functions. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, possess a strong work ethic, and demonstrate effective communication skills with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Process vendor payments and travel payments.
  • Conduct audits and reconciliations associated with Accounts Payable functions.
  • Prepare required financial statements and fiscal reports.
  • Communicate with public and private accountants, auditors, and vendors to resolve issues.
  • Maintain cash management records and classify revenue and expenditures.
  • Prepare, monitor, reconcile, audit, and forecast revenues, expenditures, and budgets.
  • Review and approve purchases and contracts.
  • Participate in the development of new accounting techniques and prepare managerial reports.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting.
  • A certified public accountant (CPA) certificate can substitute for the degree and accounting hours.
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field can substitute for the required degree (not the 24 hours in accounting).
  • Combination of work experience and college credit can substitute for the degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in government accounting or public sector finance.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and financial reporting tools.
