About the position
The Accountant 1 position at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is an entry-level professional role focused on applying accounting principles to maintain accurate financial records and reports. The incumbent will assist in the day-to-day operations of the general ledger and contribute to the safeguarding of sacred funds for the Church's religious mission. This role requires proficiency in accounting systems and the ability to meet schedules and deadlines while ensuring accuracy in financial documentation.
Responsibilities
- Initiate general ledger file maintenance for accurate financial statement presentations.
- Reconcile accounts and ensure all outstanding items are properly cleared.
- Prepare special studies and reports for departments as required.
- Prepare journal entries and adjustments to correct errors.
- Analyze budget requests and explain budgetary changes due to increased costs or program changes.
- Consolidate accounting information for use in statements and summaries.
- Review expenditures against budget and make necessary reconciliations and corrections.
- Assist in preparing financial estimates and expense reports.
- Draft correspondence regarding discrepancies that require investigation.
- Review and monitor invoices for payment exceeding defined dollar amounts.
- Audit project accounts for compliance and communicate status with relevant parties.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management.
- No post-graduate professional accounting experience required.
- Knowledge of financial and accounting theory.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese.
