About the position

Northrop Grumman is seeking a motivated professional for a General Accountant role in Bloomington, MN. This position involves various accounting responsibilities, including account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and intercompany accounting. The ideal candidate will work closely with business units to understand their financial practices and ensure compliance with GAAP. This role reports directly to the Manager of General Accounting and requires strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare account reconciliations as assigned in Blackline and resolve reconciling issues per corporate policy.
  • Conduct corrections needed to the general ledger on issues identified through the account reconciliations.
  • Respond to internal/external inquiries for Tax & Audit.
  • Prepare annual Tax and Audit schedules.
  • Support month-end close activities including reviewing trial balance data monthly.
  • Perform intercompany accounting.
  • Develop good working relationships with business units to understand their financial practices.
  • Respond to sector business partner ad hoc data requests, inquiries, and problem resolution.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the companies assigned, ensuring positive customer interfaces and written and verbal communication.
  • Identify and assist in implementing process improvements.
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure they are made in accordance with GAAP and have proper supporting documentation.
  • Communicate with business units on additions/changes to journal entries.
  • Perform lease accounting.
  • Implement ERP and special projects.
  • Manage special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Work effectively with a geographically dispersed team and customer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance from an accredited institution and a minimum of 3+ years of professional general accounting experience -OR- a Master's degree and 1+ year of professional experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically high-level Excel skills (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and conditional formatting).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in general accounting including account reconciliations, month-end close experience, and journal entries.
  • Knowledge of software applications related to the General Ledger and supporting systems.
  • Exposure to financial reporting tools, preferably Deltek - Costpoint or similar system.
