About the position

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Financial Controller to join our team at Trius Trucking Inc. The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and providing financial analysis and support to management. This role is crucial in maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulations, such as IFRS and SOX, and will involve preparing and reviewing financial statements, including the general ledger, accounts payable, and corporate accounting records. In this position, you will oversee the preparation and submission of financial reports, including annual reports and financial statements. You will conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to management based on your findings. Additionally, you will manage and supervise the accounting team, providing guidance and training as needed to ensure a high level of performance and accuracy in financial reporting. The Financial Controller will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining internal controls and risk management procedures to ensure the security and integrity of financial records and data. You will prepare and review financial budgets and forecasts, collaborating with other departments, such as tax and treasury, to ensure accurate financial reporting. Support to the audit and tax teams will also be part of your responsibilities, making this a dynamic and integral role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review financial statements, including the general ledger, accounts payable, and corporate accounting records.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, such as IFRS and SOX.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of financial reports, including annual reports and financial statements.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to management.
  • Manage and supervise the accounting team, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of technical accounting knowledge and stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and risk management procedures to ensure the security and integrity of financial records and data.
  • Prepare and review financial budgets and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as tax and treasury, to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide support to the audit and tax teams as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting and analysis.
  • Experience in public accounting or corporate accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including double entry bookkeeping and debits and credits.
  • Experience with financial software and systems, such as accounting systems and spreadsheets.
  • Certification as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
  • Experience with IFRS and SOX is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
