About the position

The Accountant, External Reporting will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for both internal and external stakeholders within a large public company in the retail and distribution sector. This hybrid position involves collaboration with a seasoned reporting and compliance team, focusing on SEC filings, financial analysis, and period close activities. The ideal candidate will have public company experience and a solid understanding of technical accounting, contributing to the preparation of financial statements and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Support period close processes, including preparation of consolidated financial statements and covenant calculations.
  • Assist with SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, working with cross-functional teams to gather and document necessary information.
  • Conduct technical accounting research on changes in regulations and accounting rules issued by the FASB and SEC.
  • Perform financial analyses for period, quarterly, and annual results, providing explanations for variances.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations in line with the reporting schedule, following up on adjustments as needed.
  • Compile reports for various departments and respond to ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Maintain schedules and documentation to support SOX compliance and facilitate internal and external audits.
  • Assist in quarterly reviews and year-end audits, liaising with internal and external auditors.
  • Participate in special projects and other financial reporting or analysis tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in public company reporting or public accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Strong attention to detail with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
