About the position

The Accountant - Generalist at Granite State Communications is responsible for supporting the Finance & Accounting Department by managing various accounting tasks, including revenue recording, cash account reconciliation, and payroll processing. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information, contributing to the overall financial health of the company and its affiliates.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares or reviews the recording of revenue entries for the Company and its affiliates.
  • Performs the periodic reconciliation of all cash accounts with banking records.
  • Supports processing of purchase order requisitions by reviewing general ledger account distributions for accuracy.
  • Prepares monthly revenue and settlement billings.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries and assists with monthly account reconciliations.
  • Provides backup support for the processing of accounts payable and vendor payments.
  • Responsible for the filing of year-end 1099 forms and coordinates receipt of W-9 forms with the AP Specialist.
  • Provides back-up support for the processing of weekly payroll and assists in the preparation of related reports.
  • Provides back-up for the processing of cash receipts.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial reports, financial exhibits or work papers in conjunction with auditors, consultants and regulatory proceedings.
  • Assists in the preparation of forecasts and budgets.
  • Provides regular feedback and keeps the immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt and corrective action where necessary.
  • Follows all Company and Department standards, processes and procedures.
  • Makes suggestions to improve efficiencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • 3 to 5 years related experience in accounting and payroll
  • Proficient with computer-based accounting systems and spreadsheet programs
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask with an excellent sense of priority, logic and objectivity
  • Ability to perform very detailed tasks with high accuracy
  • Mathematical aptitude
  • Touch-typing proficiency
  • Professional business manner, attitude and speech
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
