Responsibilities

  • Perform accounting work in the establishment and maintenance of County fiscal records.
  • Maintain a variety of ledgers and journals; may update the General Ledger.
  • Review fiscal records to ensure proper disbursement of funds.
  • Prepare annual County/department cost allocation plans.
  • Track grant funds and consolidate data; maintain and balance revenue information.
  • Audit financial records and prepare information for outside audits.
  • Prepare a variety of financial reports and statements.
  • Assist with the development and control of budget information.
  • Assist with payroll functions as needed.
  • Perform special financial analysis assignments.
  • Coordinate balancing of cash accounts with banks and other County departments.
  • Coordinate posting of journal entries and reconcile problem accounts.
  • Oversee contract administration and provide work direction for fiscal support staff.
  • Serve as a liaison with other government agencies, auditors, and the public.
  • Prepare documentation for annual audits and perform verification of draft financial audit reports.
  • Perform adjusting entries as requested in audit reports.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general accounting theory, principles, and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and policies affecting financial operations.
  • Understanding of government cost accounting and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with auditing theory, principles, and techniques in government finance.
  • Ability to perform a variety of accounting and financial transaction work.
  • Proficient in using spreadsheet, word processing, and database software.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate financial information and resolve problems.
  • Skill in preparing financial reports and statements.
