About the position

The Accountant II position within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is responsible for managing federal grant accounting activities. This role involves drawing federal funds, preparing expenditure reports, and conducting various grant analyses and reconciliations to ensure compliance with federal regulations. The position requires interaction with other sections of the Office of the Controller and federal agencies, and contributes to the year-end Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Responsibilities

  • Manage all federal grant accounting activities for the Division of Social Services.
  • Draw federal funds and prepare federal expenditure reports.
  • Conduct various grant analyses and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Prepare the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Assistance (SEFA).
  • Interpret and implement federal regulations related to grant accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, public administration, or a related discipline with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework.
  • Two years of professional accounting/auditing experience in preparing interpretive or analytical financial statements and reports.
  • Proven experience applying in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Documented experience applying analytical skills in a financially related environment.
  • Intermediate level of experience working in Excel.
