About the position

The Accountant II - Purchasing position at Community Support Services Inc. involves performing complex accounting and clerical tasks, including managing accruals, expense monitoring, and cash flow requirements. This role oversees the purchasing of all items for the agency, ensuring compliance with agency guidelines and policies, and involves obtaining competitive bids from vendors. The Accountant II also handles cash receipts and payments, ensuring accurate accounting practices are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Complete purchase requisition requests and assign purchase order numbers daily.
  • Purchase and maintain inventory on high usage items for daily operations.
  • Serve as backup for Accounts Payable, including input of invoices and financial reports.
  • File and maintain clerical records pertinent to the organization's financial needs.
  • Prepare cash requirement reports based on outstanding payables and cash flow.
  • Develop and maintain expense tracking documents per vendor contracts.
  • Research and resolve problem accounts in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements and assist in account reconciliations.
  • Perform grant packet completion and tracking for assigned grants.
  • Recommend and maintain accounting practices for data accuracy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • 1 year experience in purchasing and/or accounts payable processing or accounting functions required.
  • Proficiency in Great Plains Software and Microsoft Excel preferred.
  • Working knowledge of accounting theories and practices.
  • Ability to perform numerical detail work with speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, general ledger, and reconciliations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
