About the position

The Accountant II position at The Hartford Financial Services Group is focused on managing daily and month-end cash control processes within the Group Benefits and Property Casualty divisions. This role is part of the Accounting Controls group and involves ensuring financial accuracy and compliance through reconciliations, journal entries, and support for various financial projects. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring in-office presence three days a week in Hartford, CT.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily/monthly reconciliation of complex balance sheet accounts for cash suspense and other financial statement line item accounts.
  • Complete standard and ad-hoc journal entries.
  • Provide financial controls and balancing support for projects concerning premium, commission, claim processing, and tax reporting.
  • Support internal and external business partners in treasury, compliance, legal, IT, operations, and various other groups.
  • Evaluate and improve existing processes, workflows, and procedures ensuring comprehensive documentation to manage accounts and resolve issues.
  • Support various audit needs including those for The Hartford's policies, SOX, internal audit, external audit, or other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in projects impacting financial systems, including updates to existing platforms and integration of newly purchased applications.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses as needed and provide solution options.

Requirements

  • Accounting Degree Preferred
  • Critical thinking, analytical and quantitative skills; attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently, but also contribute as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with business partner groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data query tools.
  • General understanding of Cash Receipts and Cash Disbursements that support Paid Claims and Collected Premiums or Recoveries.
  • General understanding of The Hartford's Products, Premium and Claim Cycles is a plus.
