About the position

The Accountant II position at MAAC involves performing a full range of moderately difficult to complex professional accounting and financial analysis tasks. The role is essential for maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and other applicable standards. The Accountant II will provide technical expertise and guidance to management and staff, contributing to sound operational and financial planning through detailed financial review and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex and technical accounting work in the maintenance and analysis of records of revenues, expenditures, and special program/project funds.
  • Prepare analyses, schedules, journal vouchers, and reconciliations to produce periodic financial reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Make recommendations and calculate allocation of program costs; analyze cost data and prepare project accounting reports.
  • Reconcile major postings to source documents and audit various accounting documents.
  • Prepare projections of revenues, budget estimates, and supporting schedules; monitor and report on budget and revenue account status.
  • Review and process requests for budget adjustments; develop databases and analyze financial information.
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly and special periodic financial reports and statements for management.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to program and department management regarding financial issues and discrepancies.
  • Prepare required accounting and statistical reports for federal, state, and local agencies; ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Provide back-up support to accounting staff and resolve technical accounting issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • One year of general fund accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices, including GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and make sound recommendations.
  • Proficiency in using computer and spreadsheet software for accounting functions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Experience in non-profit budgeting and financial administration.
