The Accountant III position at the University of Alabama's College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) is a critical role that involves preparing, reconciling, and auditing budgets with minimal supervision. Additionally, this role provides guidance and training to entry-level accountants and may involve supervisory responsibilities. In this position, the Accountant III serves as the financial and budget liaison to various departments within CCHS. The role includes directing and supervising all fiscal operations, which encompasses budget development and administration, fiscal accountability, and planning to maximize departmental resources. The Accountant III will perform complex administrative and accounting duties, including budget analysis, forecasting, auditing, and strategic planning, to ensure fiscal integrity and compliance with policies. Furthermore, this position oversees financial and accounting services for the Capstone Health Services Foundation (CHSF), which includes managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, benefit plans, payroll, inventory/asset management, and the general ledger for the foundation. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Accountant III will partner with the Director of College Financial Affairs to support CCHS enterprise services. This includes working with departments such as Medical Billing, Compliance Office, Purchasing, and Health IT to organize and coordinate financial administration services. The Accountant III will also conduct research and provide financial data reporting to support academic, clinical, scholarship, and research enterprises, ensuring the integrity of data reporting systems and financial reporting systems. The position requires managing salary budget processes, departmental budget reports, and routine financial reconciliations and report preparations. The Accountant III will oversee all aspects of the state budget accounting process, including the review and reporting of Banner and Concur systems. Adherence to internal processes, control policies, and procedures as directed by college leadership is essential, as is the enforcement of CHSF policies and procedures. The Accountant III will also assist in updating internal processes and controls as needed, partnering with other finance team members to ensure the integrity of financial reporting.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related financial field and five (5) years of accounting experience; OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and three (3) years of accounting experience.
