About The Position

The Accountant position at Thrivent involves performing various accounting activities to support the Bank, Mutual Funds, Insurance, Tax, and Corporate Accounting. The role requires a professional understanding of accounting principles and practices, with responsibilities that include preparing journal entries, maintaining ledgers, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The incumbent will work independently and collaboratively, exercising professional judgment in their assigned functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, tax statutes, and regulations.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to work with a team to identify process improvements.
  • Skill in performing detailed numerical computations.
  • Skill in preparing detailed reports on a timely basis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and records journal entries for financial transactions.
  • Maintains ledgers and prepares detailed accounting information and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepares standard accounting spreadsheets, reports, and statements.
  • Audits, resolves, and approves daily values or balances to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Exercises professional judgment in analyzing discrepancies.
  • Assists in preparing materials for internal and external auditors.
  • Provides solutions to less difficult problems and recommends changes to accounting systems or procedures.
  • Implements changes in procedures affecting assigned functions and assists with various project assignments.
  • May be cross-trained in tax, mutual fund, corporate, and financial reporting disciplines.
