About the position

The Accountant position at Washoe County School District involves performing various professional accounting responsibilities under general direction. The role includes preparation of reconciliations, maintenance of accounting records, and general ledger maintenance within a computerized accounting system. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring quality assurance and operational efficiency in accounts payable, fixed assets, and payroll systems, as well as preparing financial reports and monitoring grant expenditures when assigned to the Grant Department.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare bank reconciliations and maintain accounts receivable.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain various subsidiary ledgers.
  • Develop and maintain procedure manuals for the Business Office.
  • Monitor and document accounts payable, fixed assets, and payroll systems for quality assurance.
  • Provide training and analytical review of Student Activity funds.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports in accordance with grant requirements when assigned to the Grant Department.
  • Monitor grant expenditures for compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Interact with grant coordinators and assist in financial statement preparation.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university in accounting.
  • One year of experience as a professional accountant, preferably in a governmental organization.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting practices and relevant accounting standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate is desirable.
