About the position

The Accountant/Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing various financial tasks under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This role includes processing payroll, managing accounts payable and receivable, and overseeing investment accounting. The position requires a strong focus on accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and process payroll including employee maintenance and distribution of paychecks.
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice matching and posting to the ledger.
  • Monitor and analyze investment accounts.
  • Maintain and review open purchase requests and customer invoices.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile accounts.
  • Provide backup support to other business office staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Five or more years of finance experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), HRIS, and payroll systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GAAP accounting principles.
  • Valid CPA license.
