About the position

The Accountant / Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing various financial processes under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer. This role includes processing payroll, managing accounts payable and receivable, and maintaining accurate financial records. The position requires a strong focus on detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and process payroll including employee maintenance and distribution of paychecks.
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice matching and posting to the ledger.
  • Monitor and analyze investment accounts.
  • Maintain and review open purchase requests.
  • Process customer invoices and reconcile accounts.
  • Follow up on unpaid invoices.
  • Maintain accounting records and files related to responsibilities.
  • Provide back-up support as necessary to others in the business office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Five or more years of finance experience.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), HRIS, and payroll systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with payroll systems in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders.
