About the position

The Accountant/Payroll position is a critical role within the organization, responsible for managing and processing payroll for employees with a focus on accuracy and compliance. This position requires a thorough understanding of payroll regulations and best practices, ensuring that all payroll activities are conducted in a timely manner. The Accountant will maintain payroll records and documentation, ensuring they meet company policies and regulatory requirements. This role also involves calculating payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments, and preparing payroll reports for management and stakeholders. In addition to payroll processing, the Accountant will reconcile payroll accounts and address any discrepancies that may arise. Collaboration with the HR department is essential to ensure that employee information is accurately reflected in the payroll system. Staying informed about changes in payroll regulations and industry best practices is also a key responsibility of this role. The position offers flexibility in terms of full-time or part-time work, with expected hours ranging from 30 to 40 hours per week, typically during an 8-hour shift from Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Maintain payroll records and documentation in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Calculate and process payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and other stakeholders
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve any discrepancies or issues
  • Collaborate with HR department to ensure accurate employee information and updates are reflected in the payroll system
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll regulations and best practices

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Accountant or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of financial concepts and principles
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP)
  • Familiarity with accrual accounting and general ledger accounting
  • Understanding of accounts payable processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of financial management principles, including budgeting
  • Familiarity with wills, trusts, estate law, and corporate finance is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information
