About the position

This is an amazing opportunity to work as a Property Tax Accountant for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This position is part of a team of seasoned property tax accountants who manage the property taxes of Church owned properties in the United States and Canada. An ideal candidate for this position will have strong people skills who have the ability to work with management and all levels of our organization. Well founded accounting experience and exposure to property tax would be helpful in this position. Experience working with databases is beneficial. A typical day in this role involves gathering tax assessments, authorizing, and paying tax bills, entering data into a database, using Excel and Outlook, scanning, processing mail and performing simple analytics. This work has a seasonal fluctuation, and Fall is our peak season. This role assists in preparing and reviewing required property tax returns and related statements or records. Maintains records of property tax assessments and tax payments. Recommends financial actions that may lessen the organization's tax liability while meeting organizational goals and maintaining compliance with laws and regulations. Researches and suggests responses to changes in tax laws, regulations, and guidelines. Assists with audits as needed. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. May lead the work of others in the absence of the supervisor or manager and provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.

Responsibilities

  • Gather tax assessments and authorize tax bills for payment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business management, or related field.
  • 4 years of applicable work experience in accounting or tax.
  • Prior experience in working with property tax issues is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with solid computer, word processing, and database management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with databases is beneficial.
  • Exposure to property tax compliance and management.
