About the position

The Sales Tax Associate Accountant is responsible for preparing and filing tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with indirect tax regulations, and providing training and support to store personnel regarding tax-related inquiries. This role acts as a subject matter expert within the department and contributes to overall tax compliance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, verify, archive, and retrieve sales tax exemption documentation.
  • Review exemption documentation for accuracy and follow up with stores to improve compliance.
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns for multiple tax jurisdictions.
  • Build tax reports by jurisdiction to prepare, file, and pay taxes due.
  • Work with system-generated reports to determine if the correct amount of tax was charged to customers.
  • Review use tax reporting and reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts.
  • Assist tire center personnel with questions on sales tax exemptions, use tax reporting, invoice corrections, and other general tax inquiries.
  • Provide applicable sales and use tax training.
  • Maintain tax-related training documents, perform tax research, and support audits conducted by various taxing jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of experience in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Advanced PC skills including Excel and Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of systems such as NetSuite, CustomerFirst, OneSource, Vertex, or similar tax determination engines, general ledger, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and work well with co-workers and others outside the company.
  • Excellent phone and people skills to support inquiries.
  • Ability to manage work assignments through prioritization and optimal time management.
