About the position

The Accountant (Systems) position within the Department of Defense serves as a subject matter expert for the Defense Logistics Agency's (DLA) financial management systems. The role involves providing technical and professional accounting advice, monitoring process performance, and leading efforts to improve financial management systems. The position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to analyze complex financial issues, ensuring compliance and efficiency in financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for DLA's financial management systems.
  • Provide technical and professional accounting advice on matters pertaining to accounting and financial data.
  • Monitor and review process performance, providing advisory services to management.
  • Identify functional process issues and develop proposals for process improvements.
  • Revise, design, and adapt complex accounting and financial management systems for installation and implementation.
  • Conduct detailed process studies to determine system capabilities for process improvement plans.
  • Lead and support technical staff on Business Process Reengineering efforts related to financial system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Provide audit experience to support DLA personnel in responding to auditor expectations.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration with 24 semester hours in accounting, or a combination of education and experience totaling at least 4 years in accounting.
  • Specialized experience directly related to the position, including reviewing and analyzing complex accounting/financial systems issues.
  • Experience in developing agency-wide financial management system requirements to address accounting deficiencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
  • Experience in leading financial management system upgrades and enhancements.
