About the position

The Accountant position at the Utah Transit Authority involves performing advanced professional accounting duties related to funds, assets, grant accounting, payroll, budgets, and special projects. The role requires conducting in-depth analysis of financial documents, preparing and processing financial documents, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles. This hybrid-remote position allows for a flexible work schedule after training, which requires in-office attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced professional accounting duties related to funds, assets, grant accounting, payroll, budgets, and special projects.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis on financial documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and process financial documents related to the accounting process of the assigned department or function.
  • Prepare routine to complex reports and analyses as required.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and other requirements as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting/Finance, or other related fields.
  • Knowledge of proper accounting principles and procedures; demonstrated experience in their application preferred.
  • Knowledge of specific laws, ordinances, and regulations governing financial reporting required.
  • Knowledge of accounting software preferred.
  • Basic typing skills and knowledge of personal computer operation, including advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Ability to apply professional judgment in the application of standard and advanced accounting techniques and principles.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in accounting or related fields (preferred but not required).
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of accounting principles.
