About the position

The Accountant position involves conducting moderately complex to complex accounting assignments with limited supervision. The role is primarily focused on preparing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles. This is a contract position based in Dallas, TX, requiring on-site work during standard business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares journal entries and maintains general ledger accounts.
  • Reconciles sub ledgers for month-end close.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and develops solutions for problems or variances within the department.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts.
  • Provides records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions to support general ledger and financial statements.
  • Reconciles various accounts and enters them into the system, ensuring data integrity and compliance with accounting principles.
  • Prepares month-end close by obtaining information from various reports and verifying that debits and credits balance.
  • Audits journal entries, orders, transactions, and vouchers, preparing reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
  • Coordinates all SAP postings of HEP pipeline and terminal movements, and prepares and reviews all HEP periodic SAP shipper statements.
  • Monitors all HEP Toptech interface feeds into SAP for accuracy and communicates deficiencies to HEP programmers.
  • Evaluates and remedies all HEP/SAP movement errors and prepares special month-end product movement reports for the Manager of Product Distribution.
  • Analyzes all shipper gains and losses to ensure accuracy.
  • Assists A/R in resolving billing issues.
  • Measures volumes and tracks actual vs. budgeted volumes by site.
  • Tracks and enters all branding master file additions, changes, and de-branding.
  • Assists lower-level associates in processing various fuel or crude entries and other reports as necessary.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years related experience is required.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
  • Intermediate understanding of accounting practices and procedures with the ability to perform accounting analysis as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products and experience with accounting and maintenance software is preferred.
  • Basic reading and writing skills and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations are required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in revenue accounting is preferred.
