About the position

The position involves providing assistance in budget preparation, control, personnel and payroll functions, procurement, and asset control within Salt Lake County. The role requires gathering, researching, and analyzing information to support special projects, ensuring fiscal integrity, and maintaining financial records.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and monitors budget performance.
• Researches and analyzes various budget issues and recommends budget adjustments.
• Develops and monitors cash collections and petty cash disbursements.
• Conducts ongoing reviews of internal controls related to cash handling and accounting functions.
• Assists in writing and revising accounts receivable and accounts payable policies and procedures.
• Collects financial data for journal entries and prepares special financial reports.
• May conduct audits to analyze data and assess efficiency and productivity.
• Prepares grant and contract billings and audits related expenses.
• Maintains revenue records and develops financial reports.
• Participates in month-end closing and financial reporting activities.
• Performs bank and general ledger reconciliations and prepares journal entries.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field with coursework through Intermediate Accounting.
• Knowledge of general accounting and auditing principles and procedures.
• Proficiency in financial software programs and general computer operations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with OMB Circular requirements.
• Familiarity with cost accounting principles.
• Ability to use specialized software and follow written and oral instructions.
