The Accountant position at the Camden City Attorneys Office involves performing professional accounting work under the supervision of a Supervising Accountant or fiscal officer. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine professional accounting work including designing, maintaining, and analyzing accounting record and reporting systems.
  • Conduct routine financial audits of documents and implement accounting functions, systems, policies, and plans.
  • Conduct compliance audits to ensure transactions conform with accounting and tax policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Review internal accounting policies and procedures and recommend revisions.
  • Prepare required financial statements and fiscal reports, including data compilation and analysis for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Conduct routine investigative audits of books and examinations of financial records.
  • Assist in preparing budget requests and statements of allocations and disbursements of budgeted funds.
  • Conduct surveys to prepare recommendations for improvements and controls to enhance accounting system efficiency.
  • Audit and record expense invoices routinely.
  • Conduct operational audits and edit cost reports and other financial summaries and statements.
  • Compile, analyze, and prepare various statements and reports for financial, budget, and personnel planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with twenty-one (21) semester hour credits in professional accounting courses.
  • Four (4) years of professional accounting or auditing experience, including or supplemented by twenty-one (21) semester hour credits in professional accounting courses.
  • Possession of a valid certificate as a Registered Municipal Accountant (RMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) issued by the New Jersey State Board of Certified Public Accountants, or as a Certified Municipal Finance Officer issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
