About the position

The Accountant position at the Department of Defense is an entry-level role within the DLA Pathways to Career Excellence Program (PaCE). Selected applicants will engage in a series of progressively responsible accounting functions, supported by formal training and on-the-job experience. The role is designed to develop the skills necessary for a successful career in federal accounting, with opportunities for advancement within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Preparing commitment and obligation documents by verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of accounting data.
• Processing reimbursable orders and analyzing specific accounts using system tools and reports.
• Maintaining property, plant, and equipment financial records by establishing an asset and depreciation schedule.
• Monitoring allowable stock items and levels, analyzing specific accounts, and reconciling inventory to financial records.
• Performing period closes by preparing month-end accruals and reviewing assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, foreign currency valuations, accrual entries, indirect costs allocation, and adjusting entries prior to closing the financial period.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration with 24 semester hours in accounting, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 4 years in accounting.
• Completion of DoD Financial Management Level I certification within 2 years of appointment.
